Dr. Megan Miranda received her doctoral degree from The University of Akron in Counselor Education and Supervision with a specialty in Marriage and Family Therapy. She has years of experience working with couples, families and individuals ranging from early childhood through late adulthood on a variety of presenting concerns. She specializes in treating trauma. She is a certified EMDR therapy and EMDRIA Approved EMDR consultant. Megan also has a passion for assisting those she works with to gain self-compassion through understanding the neurobiological impact of trauma on mood and behaviors. 

 

She is a seasoned educator and has taught several Master’s-level Counseling courses as an adjunct faculty member at The University of Akron.

Elizabeth Molla Ph.D

Dr. Elizabeth Molla is a graduate from the University of Akron with a doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision with a Marriage and Family Therapy focus. She is a licensed Independent Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Clinical Counselor. Elizabeth is passionate about supporting and advocating for marginalized and vulnerable populations. She has experience working with foster care youths, LGBTQ+ community, BIPOC community, couples, families and individuals of all ages. Elizabeth utilizes an attachment based, trauma informed, and systemic lens in her clinical approach on a variety of presenting concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, generational trauma, communication, sexuality, maternal depression, attachment injuries, and parenting among others. She specializes in treating trauma using EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS).

Lindsey is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapist. She earned her master’s degree from The University of Akron’s Marriage and Family Therapy program. She has experience working with couples, families, adolescents and individuals, covering an array of topics including depression, anxiety, trauma, family conflict, marital conflict, and co-parenting. Additional training includes EMDR and working with families of youth using Multisystemic Therapy. Anthony has had many years of experience working with children and adolescents and adults. Anthony is trained in EMDR, DBT, LGBTQ+ inclusion, Adventure Therapy and Structured Sensory Interventions for Traumatized Children, Adolescents and Parents. Anthony is able to assist with a variety of concerns including: trauma, anxiety, depression, parenting, adoption and fostering, grief and loss, and gender identity.

Andrea is a graduate from Case Western Reserve University with a Master of Science in Social Administration.  She is a Licensed Independent Social Worker- Supervisor. Andrea enjoys working with clients of all ages (ages 3 and up), and has a special interest in working with trauma/ PTSD, dissociation, and sexual abuse.  Andrea is committed to ongoing professional training to stay up to date on evidence-based practices. She utilizes a strength based and trauma informed approach. Andrea is a Certified EMDR Therapist and is an EMDRIA approved Consultant. Andrea offers EMDR Intensive sessions (sessions over 1 hour) for self-pay clients. She also has training in expressive arts therapies (dance/ yoga/ sand tray interventions) and motivational interviewing. Andrea is often joined by River, a golden retriever therapy dog in training.

Nikita Escobar

Nikita specializes in couples therapy and has her Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family therapy from the University of Akron. She works with teenagers, couples and individuals using a trauma-informed approach from a systems lens. She is trained in EMDR. Nikita works together with clients to create stable boundaries, rebuild self-esteem and reflect on challenging moments. She uses a collaborative approach to create a respectful and safe environment as you proceed on your unique journey to healing. When she works with couples, she helps them remember why they chose one another, identifies specific areas they want to improve, and rebuilds trust and intimacy. Ryan specializes in adolescence, trauma, eating disorders, self-injury, and can assist with a variety of presenting concerns including depression, anxiety, trauma, behavioral issues, and eating disorders. Ryan is trained in EMDR, CBT, DBT, Art Therapy, and Client Centered Therapy. Ryan also enjoys utilizing yoga and taekwondo to connect with body work and process trauma.

Angie is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in couples therapy. She has her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Akron. Fusing Gottman techniques with EFT principles, Angie works with couples to help them identify negative patterns and break out of destructive cycles, especially focusing on communication blocks. Angie also works with individuals and adolescents on a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, grief/loss, and feeling overwhelmed. She uses Mindfulness, Solution Focused, and CBT techniques and is also able to incorporate faith-based principles, per client request. Heather is a Marriage and Family Therapist that graduated from the University of Akron with a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Heather specializes in couple's therapy, but also works with families and individuals. She has a strong foundation in systems theory and integrating techniques from Gottman and CBT. Heather works with couples and families to help them identify negative patterns, improve communication, and physical and emotional connection. Heather also works with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD and other mental health concerns. Heather has completed EMDR training to further help individuals struggling with trauma. Carrie Buchanan

Certified Clinical Autism Spectrum Disorder Specialist

Carrie is a licensed independent social worker and MSW graduate of Tulane University. She is currently completing her Doctor of Social Work (DSW) at the University of Kentucky. With over 30 years in the social service field, Carrie offers a neurodiversity-affirming, person centered approach to therapy grounded in authenticity and empowerment. 

 

Carrie works with teens and adults, specializing in diagnostic assessment and support for Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD, executive functioning, PTSD, personality disorders, relationship therapy (Poly, ENM, Kink inclusive) and is LGBTQIA+ affirming. Carrie also supports clients recovering from coercive control (relationship, spiritual, cult) and military/first responder populations. 

 

She provides EMDR therapy and ASD/ADHD diagnostic assessments using the ADOS-2 and MIGDAS-2. Carrie especially enjoys working with parents of older children, teens navigating change, and men seeking therapy for the first time, offering a supportive space for growth and self-understanding.

Ashley received her Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from The University of Akron. She has years of experience working with couples, families, and individuals ranging from early childhood through late adulthood with a variety of presenting concerns including but not limited to  depression, anxiety, trauma, communication, maternal depression, and parenting. She specializes in CBT (trained by The Beck Institute), Motivational Interviewing, and is an EMDR therapist. Ashley has additional clinical experience in adoption, mental health, and treating individual and family substance use concerns.

I have over fifteen years experience in treating symptoms related to anxiety, depression, lack of self confidence, and painful life events. I will work to help you identify your unique strengths in order to reach your personal goals, (even if your only goal is to feel understood) in relaxed, casual sessions.

Katharine Fertig MSW, LISW-S, LICDC graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education and a Master’s degree of Social Work. Katharine worked with children with severe behavior disorders for 11 years. Katharine was also the recovery specialist at a group home for clients with severe persistent mental health. She has been working as an outpatient counselor and intensive outpatient counselor for the past several years in community mental health as well as a Trauma Care Coordinator. The focus of her clinical work utilizes EMDR Therapy, as well as expressive arts, mindfulness, and meditation. She has done extensive training on Dissociative Identity Disorder.

 

Katharine is a graduate of the Institute for Creative Mindfulness EMDR Therapy Training Program and EMDR Certified Therapist through EMDRIA, as well as a EMDRIA approved consultant. She has also trained with ICM as a Certified Dancing Mindfulness Facilitator and Certified Expressive Arts Therapist.

Gabrielle Ashley earned her master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Akron. She brings valuable experience working with couples, families, and individuals across the lifespan. With a strong passion for supporting children, Gabrielle has worked in a variety of clinical and community settings, helping clients navigate a wide range of challenges.

Her areas of focus include depression, anxiety, trauma (including PTSD), OCD, family dynamics, and relational conflict. Gabrielle approaches therapy as a safe, affirming space for all individuals and relationships. She utilizes an emotionally focused approach, thoughtfully tailored to meet each client’s unique needs.

Gabrielle is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy and is a certified psychedelic-assisted psychotherapist. She is currently pursuing advanced training in Autism Spectrum Disorders, with the goal of providing formal assessments and diagnoses for children, adolescents, and adults.

Gina Vitullo is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) in the state of Ohio. She received her masters from The University of Akron. Gina has experience working with individuals, couples, and families. Gina’s main focus of therapy is to create an environment that clients feel comfortable being their true authentic selves, in order to truly make a lasting change for themselves. Gina has a trauma-focused lens when addressing concerns and has been basic trained in EMDR therapy. ​Hannah Yackley is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a graduate from Ashland Theological Seminary with a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She has experience working with groups and individuals including adults, adolescents, and children over the age of ten on a variety of concerns including: Anxiety, depression, PTSD, communication issues, boundaries, conflict management, self-esteem, and grief among other mental health concerns. She has received some training in parts work, sand tray therapy, and DBT, and she is fully trained in EMDR. Please note that Hannah wears a KN95 mask and has an air purifier running in her office. Clients are welcome to do whatever they need to in order to feel most comfortable. Noelle completed her advanced education at Cleveland State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a minor in sociology, and a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Here she completed undergraduate research on the sexual education system and how this relates to LGBTQ+ issues and adolescent trauma. Noelle values being a lifetime learner to help her build upon existing knowledge and develop new methods of helping folks reach their goals.

 

Noelle works with adolescents, adults, and families. Her specialty interests include: girls’ and women’s issues, neurodivergence (ADHD & Autism), sexual and gender identity, anxiety disorders, and trauma. The foundation of her approach to counseling is an authentic, warm, welcoming space integrated with solutions-focused therapies such as dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) trauma treatment. She follows the current Standards of Care set by WPATH (World Professional Association of Transgender Health) to help her clients facilitate gender transition and experience congruence in their lives. She is informed by a holistic psychotherapy and mind-body approach to mental health and is passionate about customized mental health solutions that include integrative, alternative and functional approaches to overall health and well being.

Carolyn’s style is directive, down to earth, and engaged including a review of practical and effective coping tools as well as setting realistic, attainable goals for therapy. Her work emphasizes the blended use of DBT, CBT, ACT, Internal Family Systems and Polyvagal/Somatic Experiencing. Casey holds a Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a substance use concentration from John Carroll University. Casey has experience working with the LGBTQIA+ community, adolescents, and adults. She also has experience working in inpatient care, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and substance abuse. Casey also values building a strong and trusting relationship with her clients and believes therapy is a collaborative process where individuals can grow and heal. Brandon is currently pursuing his Masters Degree in Social Work from the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University. He has nearly 20 years of experience in the field of social work with experiences in residential treatment facilities and the child welfare system. He is familiarized with several treatment modalities to address depression, anxiety, trauma and other concerns, with specializations in EMDR, Adventure and EquineTherapy. Amber Keaton

Amber is an artist and facilitator who creates spaces for community transformation and healing through utilizing the arts. Amber is currently working towards obtaining a Masters in Art Therapy and Counseling at Ursuline College, and is trained in EMDR. She is passionate about somatic (body-rooted) approaches to therapy that utilize the expressive arts (drawing, painting, poetry, theatre, dance, etc.), the power of culture, and the magic of storytelling. Amber is passionate about the flourishing of BIPOC communities, LGBTQ+ communities, and celebrates the spectrum of neurodiversity. She believes we have all tools within ourselves to heal, and sees herself as a companion in the journey. If talk therapy hasn't been working, if you find yourself "stuck," or if you want therapy sessions that involve art and play as part of processing, Amber may be a fit for you. Matthew McCullough

Matthew is pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a concentration in substance use disorders from John Carroll University. He has experience working with marginalized populations within an inpatient behavioral health hospital setting and is passionate about his committed work to the under served. Matthew has an integrative theoretical approach to counseling, drawing from existential, person-centered, feminist, and cognitive behavioral theories to help evoke positive changes. Matthew is looking forward to working with clients on a number of issues such as trauma, anxiety, depression, substance use, and relationships through EMDR and other interventions.

Nicole is a graduate student pursuing a Master in Counseling and Art Therapy. Nicole currently has a Clinical Trainee license, is trained in EMDR, with a foundation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and art therapy. Their approach is creative, trauma-informed, and tailored to each individual. Nicole supports clients navigating anxiety, trauma, identity, and life transitions, and is committed to providing an inclusive, affirming space, especially for those in the LGBTQ+ community. No art experience is necessary, just openness to the process. Together, you’ll work toward insight, healing, and meaningful change. Cypress is a current student at Kent State University. They are currently pursuing their Masters of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and are eager to be interning at the Azalea Institute! Cypress earned their BA in Psychology with a minor in Art & Design at Hiram College. They have an interest in working with any age group, as well as the LGBTQ+ community. Their theoretical background is eclectic, but primarily based in DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), MI (Motivational Interviewing), and Narrative theory. Rebekah Dahan

Rebekah is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Social Work from the Mandel School of Social Sciences at Case Western Reserve University. Rebekah’s work experience includes working with substance abuse and addiction. She also has experience working with religious trauma, helping clients explore the concepts of shame and guilt to help reclaim a personal spirituality through providing a safe and compassionate environment to grow. Rebekah works to integrate therapeutic and somatic practices with a personalized creativity, aiming to help every client find their unique healing path through a range of different methods to help with anxiety, depression, and grief.  Rebekah also shares her knowledge of how to work with intergenerational and ancestral trauma, and how it interferes in our current lives, focusing on recognizing and healing familial patterns. Rebekah is under the direct supervision of Katharine Fertig.

Andrea Friedberg

Andrea is pursuing a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Kent State University. Her prior work experience has primarily been with young children and adolescents in caretaking and peer leadership roles. She has also worked with young adults and adolescents in a clinical setting during her practicum at the Kent State Counseling Center. She has experience working with clients expressing issues with grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, and relationship struggles. Andrea is looking forward to working with a wide array of clients experiencing multiple concerns, such as, but not limited to, anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief. She values creating a safe and welcoming space where she and the client can work collaboratively during sessions.

Pamela (Po) is our Administrative Specialist and Client Care Coordinator. Po attended the University of Sorocaba majoring in Architecture. She moved to the United States in 2016 from South America and is a proud Mama. Po has worked in administrative and leadership roles for several years and is passionate about helping others. At The Azalea Institute, Po serves as a liaison between new clients and clinicians along side Michelle, and attends to administrative duties.
